Cleveland State Women's Swimming & Diving Drops Dual at Youngstown State

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Cleveland State had a quick turnaround after swimming less than 24 hours ago at home as the Green and White went on the road to compete at Youngstown State. The Vikings dropped the Horizon League dual meet by a score of 199-94.

Madison Taker took home the first victory of the day in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:11.09. Later in the meet, the sophomore was the runner-up in the 100-yard butterfly after clocking a 1:00.02.

Rachel Contich claimed a victory in the 50-yard freestyle, sprinting to a time of 24.97. The senior also turned in runner-up finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.92) and 500-yard freestyle (5:11.43).

The Vikings went one and two in the 100-yard freestyle with Grace Chelf (53.45) and Ana Sofia Sousa (54.12).

Chelf, a freshman also turned in a second-place finish during the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.33.

In diving, Brooke Eichel placed second in 3-meter with a score of 216.45 and was third in 1-meter with a score of 203.93.

Cleveland State ended the meet on a high note as the team of Chelf, Sousa, Contich, and Taker won the 400-yard freestyle with a time of 3:37.61.

Head Coach Hannah Burandt said, "The women have made significant strides this weekend. It is truly impressive how quickly we are seeing our practice execution translate into competition execution. We are looking forward to that next level as we look forward to Magnus Cup and our first training trip in four years."

The Vikings will conclude the calendar year with the annual three-day Magnus Cup event from November 17-19 inside Busbey Natatorium. Prelims will be at 9 a.m. with finals at 5 p.m. each day.
