League-Leading Seven Cleveland State Swimming and Diving Athletes Named to #HLSD All-Academic Team

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – A league-leading seven Cleveland State swimming and diving student-athletes were named to the 2021 #HLSD All-Academic Teams, the Horizon League announced Tuesday afternoon. Timmy Kubacki, Dominik Niedzialek, Jack Krusinski and Matt Akers landed on the Men's All-Academic Team, while Eric Henrichenson, Lexie Kostelnik and Irena Weclawiak represented the Vikings on the Women's All-Academic Team.

Senior Timmy Kubacki notched a 3.86 GPA, which is the second-highest GPA of any swimming and diving Viking. The accounting major set a new program record in the 500-yard freestyle at the 2021 #HLSD Championships, clocking in a 4:24.35, in addition to a third-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke at the league meet. Kubacki was one of four men's swimmers to land on the Cleveland State President's List for Spring 2021. 

Fellow Senior Dominik Niedzialek joined Kubacki on the President's List this past semester, owning a 3.82 GPA as a business economics major. Niedzialek finished as the league runner-up in the 200-yard backstroke at the championships with a time of 1:43.79, while leading the Green and White's second-place 400-yard medley relay.

Jack Krusinski lands on the 2021 #HLSD All-Academic Team with a 3.75 GPA. The finance major posted a top-three finish in the Horizon League Championships in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:58.46, which marked a seven-second improvement (2:04.48) from the Vikings' opening meet.

Rounding out the men's side was senior Matt Akers. Akers, who owns a 3.49 GPA, won his first career #HLSD 1-meter diving championship with a score of 321.20. A pre-physical therapy major, Akers also notched a third-place finish in the 3-meter diving, improving on his fourth-place finish as a junior.

For the women, Erica Henrichsen led the way with a perfect 4.0 GPA. The senior was among the top four finishers in the 3-meter dive at the Horizon League meet, posting an overall score of 244.95 – jumping up four spots after an eighth-place showing in the preliminary round. A double major in environmental studies and journalism / promotional communications, Henrichsen was one of 14 Vikings on the Dean's List this past spring.

Lexi Kostelnik, who tallied a 3.91 GPA as a nursing major, was part of Cleveland State's second-place 800-yard freestyle relay squad at the 2021 #HLSD Championships. In her senior day meet against UIC on Feb. 27, the senior won the 1,000-yard freestyle, clocking in at 10:33.57. In that same meet, Kostelnik helped the Vikings to a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

The third, and final Viking, on the women's #HLSD All-Academic Team is senior Irena Weclawiak. The mechanical engineering major owns an impressive 3.88 GPA and was part of the Green and White's second-place 800-yard freestyle relay squad at the league's championships. Weclawiak was one of five women's swimming and diving student-athletes to garner President's List honors for the Spring 2021 semester.
