CSU Sets Pool Record in 400 Free Relay

CLEVELAND, Ohio- On the final day of the 2014 Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championship, the Cleveland State women's swimming and diving team finished in fourth place, with a total of 497 points.

To finish out the 2014 HL Championships, the Vikings finished first in the 400 free relay with a pool record time of 3:23.01.  CSU's relay team was led by Rowan Elbadry, Christine Kopacko, Amanda Pallija, and Alex Johansson anchoring the relay.  The previous pool record relay team was Cleveland State's Johansson, Sommerville, Behn, and Hestley.

The Vikings had fine swims from Jodi Turk who finished third in the 1,650 freestyle, timing out at 17:08.20. In the 100 free freshman Rowan Elbadry continues to dominate in her events finishing atop the leader board with a time of 50.72.  Alex Johansson was not too far behind Elbadry in the 100 free, finishing third with a time of a 50.92.  In the 200 breast consolation B-final Madisen Tretter finished first in the event.

Head Coach Wally Morton recapped the team's performance through the four days and about his last coaching meet of his career. "It just doesn't get any better than with the women winning the 400 free relay at the end of the meet.  Three of the swimmers were seniors that led off the race with a freshman and set our school record in the 100 free.  What spectacular career Amanda Pallija had and has come so far from the time she was on her team.  Christine Kopacko is one of the greatest sprinters in the history of Cleveland State.  Alex Johansson is one the greatest swimmers ever and to be on that relay and what they accomplished is nothing less than spectacular.  Rowan (Elbadry) winning the 100 free was a big highlight and lots of swimmers stepped up.  We had a school record broken by Jodi Turk in the 1,650 free.  She broke it by over eight seconds," said a thrilled Morton.

"Overall, it was a great job by both of our teams.  We have a good team.  It was a great road to finish up my career."
