SETTING THE SCENE:  The Cleveland State men's and women's swimming and diving teams will be in action at home against conference opponent UIC for their final home meet of the regular season on Saturday (Feb. 1) at 12:00 p.m.

REVIEWING LAST TIME OUT: The men's and women's swimming and diving teams traveled to Rochester Hills, Michigan over the weekend on Saturday (Jan. 25) to take on Oakland and Xavier.  The men defeated Xavier 177.5- 109.5 and the women also beat Xavier 201-93, but both the men and women fell to Oakland.  The men on the year are 8-5, 2-1 HL, with the women improving their record to also 8-5, 2-2 HL.

The women had solid showings from Jodi Turk and Rowan Elbadry.  Turk won the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:31.36.  Elbadry earned a pair of victories in the 200 freestyle (1:52.72) and the 50 freestyle (24.13).

On the men's side, senior Alex Lewis won the 50 freestyle with a top time of 21.06 and sophomore diver Stephen Schillero won both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives.

SENIOR DAY:

  • Before the meet against UIC, 16 CSU seniors will be honored for their accomplishments.

U.S. WINTER NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS:

  • Eight talented CSU swimmers (Adam Ingledew, Alex Lewis, Alex Johansson, Al Shillito, Madisen Tretter, Justin Kermack, Nathan Grant, and Gage Alleman) had the opportunity to swim against top talent in Knoxville, Tennessee from Dec. 5 - Dec. 7.

ELBADRY, TURK, AND LEWIS CONTINUE TO DOMINATE IN EVENTS:

  • Rowan Elbadry won a pair of individual events in the 200 free (1:52.72) and the 50 free (24.13).  She also contributed a first place finish in the 400 free relay (3:33.32) on Saturday (Jan.18) against Wright State.
  • Alex Lewis earned a 50 free win with a time of 21.06 and was a part of a runner up finish in the 400 free relay (3:14.37) on Saturday (Jan. 25) against Oakland and Xavier.
  • Jodi Turk won the 1,000 free with a time of 10:31.36. against Oakland and Xavier.

ELBADRY EARNS HL SWIMMER OF THE WEEK:

  • Freshman Rowan Elbadry earned Horizon League swimer of the week on Tuesday (Jan. 21) for her outstanding swimming performance against Wright State and Gannon.
  • Elbadry led the Vikings to two straight dual meet wins over Gannon and Wright State.  CSU is now 7-4 overall on the season.  Against Gannon, she won the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.33 and the 200 freestyle with a top time of 1:54.88.  In the win over Wright State, Elbadry won the 50yard freestyle with a time of 24.16, the 100 freestyle with a finishing wall touch of 52.76, and in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:54.53.  She also was part of the 400 freestyle relay teams. 

UP NEXT:

  • The Vikings will continue Horizon League meet play on Friday (Feb. 7) as  CSU will travel to Valparaiso.  Swimming and diving will begin at 3:00 p.m.  On Saturday (Feb. 8) Cleveland State will head to Notre Dame with swimming and diving events beginning at 12:00 p.m.
