Vikings 2-0 in City Dual Meet

CLEVELAND, Ohio- The Cleveland State Women's Swimming and Diving team defeated Canisius 157.00- 86.00 and Notre Dame College 198.50- 36.50 on Tuesday at Robert F. Busbey Natatorium.

The Vikings (5-4-0) were led by Alex DiMasso who won the 1-meter (225.15).  DiMasso's win marked her first official collegiate win of her diving career at Cleveland State. Kathleen Chandler won the 3-meter dive with a score of 249.15.  In the 200 Medley Relay the Vikings finished atop with a time of 1:51.41.  Alex Johansson, Madisen Tretter, Meghan Miller, and Christine Kopacko led the charge for CSU.  Sophomore Jodi Turk finished first in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:39.26.  Freshman Rowan Elbadry finished atop the leader board in the 200 freestyle with a wall touch time of 1:54.62 and also in the 100 free with a time of 53.20. 
 
In the 50 yard freestyle Johansson had a quick top time of 24.34.  Smith swam well in the 200 IM with a top time of 2:14.00 and won her second event in the 100 back with a time of 59.79.  Turk continued her superb swimming in the pool as she won her second swim event of the day in the 500 freestyle (5:12.89).  The women finished the day off taking first in the 200 freestyle relay with a top time of 1:38.25.  They were led by Elbadry, Pallijia, Kopacko, and Johansson.    
 
Head Coach Wally Morton spoke about the performance from his team. "We had an exciting meet tonight at our City Dual Meet and are very thankful for Notre Dame and Canisius," said Morton.
 
"A very convincing win against both teams led by Alex Johansson, who is the anchor of our team.  In terms of double wins, Jodi Turk won the 1,000 free and 500 free in a convincing fashion.  Rowan Elbadry who won the 200 free and 100 free in also very convincing fashion," said a happy Morton.
"Another double winner that swam well was Hayley Smith who won both the 200 IM and 100 back.  Overall, I am very pleased with the team effort from the women's team from top to bottom."
 
Other key contributors for CSU were Sammie Sposet who finished second in the 1-meter dive with a score of 218.78 and took second as well in the 3-meter with a score of 248.40.  Amanda Pallijia finished second in the 200 free with a time of 1:58.37.  Liz Tamas finished right behind Smith with a time of 2:14.36 in the 200 IM.  Miller continued to have a strong day in the pool as she finshed second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:00.46.  Kopacko finished second in the 100 freestyle with a runner-up time of 54.88.
Two Vikings, Madisen Tretter and Alex Johansson will compete in the U.S. Winter National Championships in Knoxville, Tennessee on Thursday-Saturday (Dec. 5-7).
