Vikings Pick Up Second Straight Victory Over Niagara

NIAGARA, N.Y.- The Cleveland State women's swimming and diving team won their second straight swim meet, defeating Niagara, 162-76.

The Vikings had 10 first place finishes on the day.  Cleveland State (3-4) was led by sophomore Jodi Turk, who won three swim events on the day in the 1,000 freestyle (10:39.17), 200 IM (2:14.48), and the 500 freestyle (5:13.76).  Senior Alex Johansson won a pair of events in the 100 butterfly (59.84) and was part of a first place finish in the 200 Medley Relay (Smith, Kiekebosch, Johanssson, and Kopacko) who timed out at 1:51.64. 

Sophomore Samantha Sposet won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events for Cleveland State.  Also, freshman Rowan Elbadry continued her dominance in the pool this season as she won the 100 freestyle and was part of the 200 Free Relay.  Dayna Kiekebosch was atop the leaderboard in the 100 breastroke with a top time of 1:10.27.  Amanda Pallijia won the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:00.53.

Other key contributors for CSU were Beth Robertson who swam well in the 1,000 and 500 freestyles.  Ally McConnell finished second in the 200 and 100 freestyles.  Christine Kopacko finished second in the 50 free with Meghan Miller taking second in the 200 IM and 100 fly, with Hayley Smith also finishing second in the 100 back.

Head Coach Wally Morton was very pleased on the Vikings victory. "One of our objectives was team support, unity, and spirit.  There was great entusiasm at the meet and led to great swimming.  We picked up four wins this weekend (men and women) and are making solid progress as the season evolves," said a pleased Morton.

The Vikings will have a few weeks to prepare as CSU will compete in the CSU Magnus Invitational on Friday-Sunday, with dates being set for November 22-24.  The swim events will be an all day session for three days at Robert F. Busbey Natatorium.
