CLEVELAND - Cleveland State softball Head Coach Julie Jones announced Tuesday the signing of four high school seniors to national letters of intent for the 2003-04 school year. Sherri Douglas, Beth Kattenhorn, Sarah Milosek and Michele Penney will all don Viking uniforms this coming spring.
"I am very excited about this group of incoming freshmen," said Jones. "Not only are all four of them great athletes, they bring versatility and each is an extremely hard worker. They are also all outstanding students and we look forward to the impact they will have on our program."
Douglas, a native of Canton, Ohio, earned four letters as a second baseman at Massilon Perry High School. She was named to the first team All-Federal League twice and guided the Panthers to the Division I State Semifinals. A .475 hitter her senior season, Douglas also excelled in the classroom, touting a 4.0 GPA as well as being a member of the National Honor Society.
Kattenhorn, a Columbus native, primarily played catcher at Hilliard Davidson High School, where she helped lead the Wildcats to the State Semifinals in 2002. She earned a trio of varsity letters and was a three-time all-district and all-conference honoree. An Academic Athlete from 2000-02, Kattenhorn carried a 3.5 GPA and made honor roll three years.
Milosek recently earned second team Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America honors. A Brighton, Mich. native, she batted .360 as an infielder to lead Brighton High School to the Michigan Division I State Championship. Milosek received all-district, all-region and all-state honors as a senior as well as all-conference accolades each of her last three seasons. In addition, she earned all-state and all-county academic honors for her performance in the classroom.
Penney, a catcher and outfielder from Mantua, Ohio, led the Crestwood High School team to the 2003 Division II State Championship, earning team MVP and second team all-county honors. She also picked up first team all-conference recognition all four seasons.
Cleveland State finished 23-30-1 last season and advanced to the Horizon League Championship title game.
