Special Season Comes to an End For Cleveland State Softball in NCAA Norman Regional

Norman, OK-The Cleveland State softball team saw its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 15 years come to an end on Saturday with an 8-0 defeat at the hands of Boston University in an elimination game in the NCAA Norman Regional.

Cleveland State made its third NCAA Tournament appearance after winning the Horizon League Tournament Championship last weekend at Youngstown State. The Vikings finished the season with an overall record of 22-26 and a record of 14-10 in Horizon League play.

The game was scoreless through two innings. The Vikings saw their best scoring threat of the day in the opening inning as Becky Hurosky and Melissa Holzopfel recorded back-to-back hits to put runners at first and second with two outs. A popout ended the threat with no runs coming across. Hurosky finished 2-for-2 at the plate in the game.

BU seized momentum with four runs on four hits and an error in the third inning. The Terriers used several strategically placed hits to string together the rally and take a 4-0 lead.

Cleveland State recorded just one hit the rest of the way, a Hurosky single in the fourth. BU added four more runs in the bottom of the fifth which ended the game due to the run rule.

This marks the final game for six Viking seniors, as Jenna Deang, Alexa Sieger, Torrie Jenkins, Jenna Watts, Kiera Frascone and Hurosky capped their careers with an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
