Cleveland State Softball Hosts Oakland For Opening Home Weekend

Cleveland, OH-The Cleveland State softball team is set to host Oakland this weekend in a three-game series at Viking Field. The schedule for the weekend has been adjusted due to weather concerns in the area with a doubleheader scheduled for Friday afternoon and a single game set for Saturday. Action on both days is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.

This weekend the softball team will celebrate Cancer Awareness weekend. The team will raise awareness for four different types of cancer, all of which have a personal connection to a player or coach on the team. Colon Cancer, Ovarian Cancer, Breast Cancer and Skin Cancer will all be part of this weekend's games with information shared on local resources in the area to support research and development to find a cure for these types of cancer.

The Vikings enter the weekend sitting at 2-1 in the Horizon League after an opening series win over IUPUI two weekends ago. The Viking offense broke out in a big way in the series against IUPUI, striking for 30 runs in two games to claim a doubleheader sweep on the opening weekend of conference play.

Oakland is also 2-1 in league play after defeating Northern Kentucky in its opening three-game series two weeks ago. The Golden Grizzlies are 9-10 overall and have a 5-7 record on the road so far this season.

There will be no live streaming coverage of this weekend's games. Live stats will be available on csuvikings.com for all three games. Admission to all softball games is free for all fans.
