Cleveland State Softball Drops Two on Second Day in Hawaii

Honolulu, HI-The Cleveland State softball team fell to UConn and Hawaii on the second full day of play for the Vikings at the Outrigger Rainbow Wahine Classic on Saturday. UConn won 6-0 in the opening game and Hawaii won 13-0 in five innings in the second game. 

UConn scored six runs on nine hits, three of which came in the fifth inning off of starter Melissa Holzopfel. Three of the UConn hits went for extra bases including two doubles and a home run. The Vikings were held scoreless with five hits offensively. Jenna Deang and Emma Gilkerson each finished 2-for-3 at the plate in the contest.

In the second game of the day Hawaii scored all 13 of its runs in the third and fourth innings to pull away from the Vikings. The game ended in five innings due to the run rule. Hawaii collected 15 hits including three home runs, which all came in the fourth inning. Cleveland State collected just four hits, with Jenna Deang finishing 2-for-3 again in the second game.

The Vikings will be back in action tomorrow for the final two games of the Hawaii trip. A rematch against UConn will begin at 5:00 p.m. and the final game against host Hawaii is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
