Cleveland State Softball falls at Youngstown State in Series Finale

Youngstown, OH-The Cleveland State softball team finished on the wrong end of a 6-2 decision to Youngstown State in the third and final game of a three-game series Saturday afternoon.

The Penguins scored early and late to win the rubber match after the two teams split a doubleheader on Thursday.

Youngstown State used the long ball to take an early lead with solo home runs in the first two innings to take a 2-0 lead.

The Vikings responded in the third, as Jenna Deang took advantage of a YSU error to reach base with one out. Brooke Albaugh followed with a single to put two on. Following a strikeout, Becky Hurosky delivered a two-RBI double that tied the score at two.

The two teams were scoreless until the Penguins struck for four runs in the bottom of the sixth to re-take the lead. YSU used three hits and multiple wild pitches to plate four and take a 6-2 lead.

The Vikings did get a runner aboard in the top of the seventh but couldn't do any more damage as the Penguins secured the victory.

Cleveland State is now 11-9 in the Horizon League and remains in fourth place with three league games remaining. The Vikings will host Robert Morris this coming weekend at Viking Field with the first game set for Friday at 3:00 p.m.
