Holzopfel Named #HLSB Pitcher of the Week for Second Straight Week

Cleveland, OH-Melissa Holzopfel has earned a second consecutive Horizon League Softball Pitcher of the Week award after another stellar performance this weekend against Detroit Mercy. 

Holzopfel struck out 27 batters in 14 innings of work against the Titans over the weekend. She yielded just three hits and one walk combined in pitching two complete-game shutouts. 

In the series finale on Saturday she gave up just one hit, a leadoff double, before retiring the next 21 in a row to finish the game. 

Holzopfel sports a microscopic 0.73 ERA in Horizon League play which ranks her third among qualifying pitchers. She now has three complete-game shutouts in league play, with the first one coming in a no-hitter two weekends ago against NKU. 

The Vikings are in action this afternoon taking on Purdue Fort Wayne in the first game of a three-game series. Cleveland State has won back-to-back league series and sits at 5-3, one game out of first place headed into this week's action.
