Cleveland State Softball Hosts Detroit Mercy for Three Game Home Series

Cleveland, OH-The Cleveland State softball team is back at Viking Field this weekend for a three game home series against Detroit Mercy this weekend. Game one will be Friday afternoon with a doubleheader scheduled for Saturday. 

The Vikings are 2-3 in the Horizon League following their first series win of the season at Northern Kentucky last week. Cleveland State took the first two games of the series, winning 10-0 and 4-2. 

Melissa Holzopfel recorded a no-hitter in five innings in the series opener, the tenth no-hitter in program history. She comes into the weekend with a 1.15 ERA in conference play, good for fifth in the league. 

Holzopfel recorded 16 strikeouts against just four walks in 12 innings of work last weekend. Her efforts earned her Pitcher of the Week honors from the Horizon League this week. Opponents are hitting just .165 against Holzopfel in league play, which is the third best average among eligible pitchers.

Detroit Mercy is 3-20 on the season and 2-6 in Horizon League play. The Titans are playing their second consecutive road series after dropping three in a row at Purdue Fort Wayne last weekend.
