Cleveland State Softball Drops Finale at Maroon and Gold Challenge

Cleveland State Softball Drops Finale at Maroon and Gold Challenge

Charleston, SC-The Cleveland State softball team suffered a tough loss to finish out the Maroon and Gold Challenge, falling to Marist 2-0. The Vikings finish the weekend at 2-3 and sit at 4-11 overall.

Marist scored single runs in the first and third innings to take the early lead. The Vikings tallied three hits against Marist starter Calista Phippen.

The Vikings got runners into scoring position in each of the final two innings but could not bring either around. The best threat came in the final inning when Becky Hurosky led off with a double. Emily Yacapraro pinch-ran for Hurosky at second base but was promptly erased after Sophie Spellman flew out to center field and Yacapraro was doubled off second base.

Despite the tough break, the Vikings got two more runners aboard on back-to-back walks with two outs before a pop out ended the threat and the game.

Cleveland State will be in action again next weekend as the Vikings travel to Marshall for another tournament weekend. Action begins on Friday with a single game against Rider.
