Cleveland State Softball Drops Two to open UAB Green and Gold Classic

Birmingham, AL-The Cleveland State softball team dropped two tough decisions to open the Green and Gold Classic on Friday. The Vikings persevered through a weather delay between the first and second game of the day. 

CSU dropped a 10-2 final score to Louisiana-Monroe in the first game of the day. ULM scored three in the first, one in the second and five in the third to open up a 9-0 advantage. The Vikings scored both of their runs in the fourth, one on a bases loaded hit-by-pitch and the second on an RBI groundout from Meridith Rankl. ULM tacked on one more in the sixth to end the game early via the mercy rule. 

In the second game of the day, Cleveland State took on host UAB. The Blazers scored in the first inning, and the two teams played even for the next two full innings. In the fourth, UAB opened it up with a five run inning to take a 6-0 lead. The Blazers followed with three more runs in the sixth inning to end the game with a 9-0 mercy rule win. 

Cleveland State recorded just two hits in the second game. The Vikings fall to 1-6 on the season and will be back in action with two more games on Saturday.
