Cleveland State Softball Picks up First Win of the Season over Jacksonville

Jacksonville, FL-The Cleveland State Softball team picked up its first win of the season on Sunday, defeating Jacksonville 1-0 to close the JU/UNF Invitational. 

The win moved the Vikings to 1-4 overall on the five-game road trip to start the season. 

Alexa Sieger provided the offense for Cleveland State. Sieger hit a two-out solo home run in the first inning to provide the only scoring. She hit a 3-2 pitch over the left field wall to give the Vikings the early lead. It is the third career home run for Sieger, a Junior. 

Melissa Holzopfel earned the win, going the full seven innings for the complete-game shutout. She yielded just four hits and struck out nine for the game. Overall Holzopfel threw 112 pitches with 68 of them going for strikes. 

The Vikings will be back in action next weekend, traveling to Birmingham, Alabama for the UAB Blazer Invitational Friday, February 24th through Sunday, February 26th.
