BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Cleveland State softball program was shut out on the final day of the Campbell Invitational, as Iona collected a 3-0 victory against the Vikings on Sunday.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

-Taylor Betz was near perfect in relief as she allowed just two hits over four scoreless innings to close out the game. She recorded four strikeouts compared to two bases on balls.

- The Vikes were moving on the basepaths as the team collected four steals overall. Jenna Deang swiped two bags while Taylor Duncan and Courtney Fernette each finished with one, respectively.

- Sophie Spellman (1-for-2), Deang (1-for-3) and Fernette (1-for-3) collected hits for CSU.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Iona did its damage with runs in the bottom half of the first, second and third innings to jump out to a 3-0 lead.

- Cleveland State was able to get a runner to second in the fourth and the tying run at the plate in the fifth, but Iona escaped out of both chances and shut the Vikings down over the rest of the game to seal the 3-0 victory.

NEXT UP

That concludes the Spring non-conference campaign as the Vikes will turn their attention to Horizon League play which gets underway with a three-game road series at IUPUI on Friday, March 11 and Saturday, March 12. Friday's game is set for a first pitch at 3 PM ET while Saturday's doubleheader will get underway at 1 PM.
