Grizzlies Take Two on Friday from Vikings

ROCHESTER, Michigan - The Cleveland State softball team fell to the Oakland Golden Grizzlies in the first day of their two-day, four-game outing. Cleveland State suffered a 4-1 defeat in the first game, before falling 9-4 in the second contest of the day.

GAME ONE
The Green and White jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning as sophomore Kaelin Ettinger singled through the left side scoring Alexa Sieger. Sieger led off the inning with a double to left center.

The Grizzlies would respond in the bottom of the third inning, scoring four runs to take a 4-1 lead.

Neither team would cross home plate again for the remainder of the game, as Cleveland State would fall to Oakland 4-1 in the two-day series opener.

The Green and White recorded 11 hits, compared to Oakland's seven, but also committed two errors. 

Hanna Griffin was on the bump in game one, pitching 6.0 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, while striking out two, receiving the loss.

GAME TWO
Just like in the first game, Cleveland State secured another early lead, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning.

Freshman Kiera Frascone reached first base on an error before stealing second. With one out and Frascone on second base, Sydney Bajusz smashed a homerun to left center field to give the Vikes a 2-0 advantage heading into the bottom of the inning.

Oakland responded with a three-run inning of its own to hold a 3-2 lead heading into the second inning of action.

Cleveland State tacked on one run in the the top of the second and top of the third to regain its lead, 4-3.

Frascone smacked a single to left field scoring Fernette in the top of the second inning, while Sieger tallied a single in the top of the third, scoring Aly Packish

The Green and White would remain scoreless the rest of game two, as Oakland added two runs in the bottom of the third inning, one run in the bottom of the fifth and secured three insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth to snag a 9-4 victory.

Taylor Betz received the loss for the Vikings, pitching 6.0 innings, allowing four earned runs on 11 hits. The junior fanned eight batters while only allowing two walks.

Cleveland State will look to snap its six-game losing streak on Saturday, as the Vikes have two more cracks at the Golden Grizzlies. First pitch of game one on Saturday is set for 12 p.m.
