Vikings Split in Day Two of Cardinal Invitational

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Cleveland State Vikings softball team was back on the diamond today (Feb. 15), splitting their double header in day two of the Cardinal Invitational. Cleveland State fell in its first game against Grambling, 2-0, but earned a 5-0 win in its second game of the day against Fairleigh Dickinson.

Game One:

The Vikings, finishing the game with four hits, were held scoreless in their first outing of the day. Sydney Bajusz led Cleveland State with two hits, while Kelly Hysong and Becky Hurosky each added one hit.

Hanna Griffin was in the circle for the Vikes, pitching 6.0 innings and giving up two runs.

Game Two:

Kelly Hysong began Cleveland State's second game of the day with double to left field. Hysong advanced to third base off of an Aly Packish sac bunt, putting the junior on third base with one out. Sydney Bajusz slapped a single to left field, scoring Hysong and putting the Vikings on the board first.

Mackenzie Tucker led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a triple for Cleveland State. Hallie Ward entered the ballgame to pinch run for Tucker, with Kelly Hysong at the plate. Hysong smacked a single to center field, scoring Tucker and expanding Cleveland State's lead, 2-0.

The Vikings strung together a three-run sixth inning, behind an RBI double from Hallie Ward, a steal home by Ward, and an RBI single from Kelly Hysong.

Hysong (2-1) earned her second win of the season in game two of Cleveland State's double header, pitching a complete game, only allowing two hits.

The Vikings will wrap up the Cardinal Invitational tomorrow (Feb. 16) at 10:30 a.m. against Delaware.
