Vikings Earn NFCA Academic Honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Cleveland State softball team ranked among the national leaders in team grade point average and 12 student-athletes were named 2019 Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced on Wednesday.

Cleveland State ranked 58th in NCAA Division I with a 3.430 grade point average, while a total of 140 teams surpassed the required 3.00 team GPA.

Helping the Vikings earn the 3.430 GPA were the 12 student-athletes who were recognized by the NFCA for mainting at least a 3.50 grade point average.

Sydney Bajusz, Hanna Breeden, Valeri Broschk, Emily Hale, Jordan Humitz, Talia Minisall, Riley Ries, Gabby Shackelford, Hannah Tanis, Abby Tolstyka, Hallie Ward and Lindsay Ward each posted a 3.50 GPA during the 2018-19 academic year.

The NFCA recognized a total of 1,769 Division I student-athletes and over 8,000 student-athletes from Division I, II and III, the NAIA, junior college and high school were recognized.
