Vikings Face Oakland in Horizon League Road Series

CLEVELAND -- Cleveland State will travel to Oakland to begin a three-game Horizon League series against the Grizzlies beginning on Tuesday (April 23). The teams will open the series at 4 p.m. on Tuesday and then play a doubleheader on Wednesday (April 24) beginning at 1 p.m.

The Vikings went 1-2 at home against IUPUI over the weekend and are currently 11-28 overall and 4-11 in the Horizon League. Oakland enters the series with a 12-26 overall mark and a 5-12 record in league play.

Cleveland State is currently chasing the sixth, and final spot in the Horizon League Tournament, as the Vikings are two games out of the final spot in the postseason. Green Bay currently occupies the final spot in the Horizon League Tournament with a 6-9 league record. Wright State is seventh in the standings with a 7-11 mark, while Oakland is eighth with a 5-12 record.

Kelly Hysong had a brilliant weekend for the Vikings at the plate and in the circle. The junior batted .600 in the three-game series and had a double, a triple and two home runs, while she tossed a one-hit shutout in the Vikings 1-0 victory in the opening game of the series.

Hysong currently ranks second in the Horizon League with nine home runs and is also ranked among the league leaders in slugging percentage, hits and doubles. She is leading the Vikings with a .321 batting average, nine home runs and a .629 slugging percentage, and ranks second on the team with 21 RBIs.

Senior Riley Ries leads Cleveland State with 23 RBIs and ranks second on the team with a .313 batting average and 11 doubles.

Aly Packish is third on the team with 12 runs driven in, while Lindsay Ward has two homers and 11 RBIs.

Hanna Griffin leads the Vikings with six wins in the cirles, while Hysong has five wins and a 3.89 earned run average.
