Vikings Host IUPUI on Senior Day Weekend

CLEVELAND -- Cleveland State will host IUPUI for a three-game Horizon League series beginning on Friday (April 19) at Viking Field. The Vikings will also celebrate Senior Day on Saturday (April 20) prior to game one of the scheduled doubleheader.

Friday's game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m., while the Saturday doubleheader is slated for a 1 p.m. start. Cleveland State seniors Bailee Gray, Riley Ries and Macy Kaisk will each be honored prior to the start of the doubleheader.

Cleveland State, which is 10-26 overall and 3-9 in the Horizon League, is currently just two games out of the final spot in the upcoming Horizon League Tournament. Green Bay currently occupies the sixth, and final, spot in the standings with a 5-7 league record. Cleveland State swept a three-game series earlier this season from the Phoenix and would own a tie-breaker advantage over Green Bay.

The Vikings, who are 3-3 at home on the season, are led offensively by the tandem of Ries and junior Kelly Hysong. Ries leads the Vikings with a .311 batting average, 22 RBIs and an on-base percentage of .398. Hysong is second on the team with a .300 batting average and leads the Vikings with seven home runs and a .562 slugging percentage.

Paige Hartley is hitting .280 over the last 10 games with three doubles and a triple, while Lindsay Ward is batting .258 over the same stretch with two home runs and four RBIs.

Cleveland State has pitched to a 2.26 earned run average over the past 10 contests led by Hysong who has a 2-3 record and a 1.98 ERA in her last six appearances. Hanna Griffin has a 2-3 record and a 2.57 ERA over the same 10-game stretch. Hysong has a 4-10 overall record on the season, while Griffin is 6-12 in the circle on the year.

IUPUI leads the all-time series with the Vikings 7-3 and has won four of the last five games played between the two teams.
