Vikings Host Detroit Mercy in Mid-Week Horizon League Series

CLEVELAND -- Cleveland State, winners of four straight games, will host Detroit Mercy in a three-game Horizon League series beginning with a doubleheader on Tuesday (April 9) at Viking Field.

The Vikings and Titans will play a doubleheader on Tuesday (April 9) beginning at 4 p.m. and conclude the series with a single game on Wednesday (April 10) beginning at 1 p.m.

The Vikings swept a three-game series from Green Bay over the weekend to improve to 10-20 overall and 3-3 in the Horizon League. Detroit Mercy enters the series with a 15-21 overall record and a 7-5 mark in league play.

Cleveland State won all three games against Green Bay by one run and posted its first three-game Horizon League home sweep since the 2013 season.

The Vikings rode solid pitching and timely hitting to the sweep of the Phoenix. Paige Hartley batted a blistering .625 in the three games and had two doubles, a triple and scored three runs to lead the CSU offensive attack. Kelly Hysong pitched a complete-game shutout in game two of the series and also notched a save in the finale of the three-game set.

Riley Ries currently leads the Vikings with a .349 batting average and has also driven in a team-high 21 runs. She also tops the Vikings with 11 doubles and a .447 on-base percent.

Hysong leads the Vikings with seven home runs and a .627 slugging percentage and is hitting .327 on the year to go along with 19 RBIs.

Aly Packish is third on the team with 11 RBIs, while Hartley raised her season average to .244 following her performance against Green Bay.

Hanna Griffin, who registered two victories against Green Bay, leads the Vikings with six wins in the circle and a 4.95 earned run average. Hysong has four wins and has a 4.97 ERA.

The series was originally scheduled for a single game on Tuesday and a doubleheader on Wednesday.
