Ries Named to Horizon League Softball All-Academic Team

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Cleveland State junior catcher Riley Ries (Barberton, Ohio) has been voted to the 2018 Softball All-Academic Team that was announced on Wednesday. The team was voted on by by the League's faculty athletics representatives.

The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits.

Ries sports a 3.65 grade point average as an exercise fitness specialist major and is one of the top offensive threats in the League. In 46 games, Ries is hitting .317 with 10 doubles, six home runs and 31 runs batted in and has also thrown out nine base stealers.

She is ranked 14th in the League in batting average, tied for fourth in home runs and sixth in RBI.

Ries and the Vikings close out the season with a three-game series at Wright State this weekend.
