CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State softball team split a doubleheader with Northern Kentucky on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at Viking Field. The Norse won today's first game, 3-2, while the Vikings came back to take game two, 5-1.

CSU's five seniors - Kristin Catalano, Kait Gairing, Mackenzie Joecken, Aubrie Tone and Mel Woodard - were honored prior to today's first game as they were playing in their final weekend home series of their careers.

The Vikings rode the arm of Taylor Miokovic to the win in game two as she pitched six innings, allowing one run on five hits with four striekouts. Alicia Major recorded the final three outs of the game.

CSU jumped on the board in the second inning when Gairing drew a bases loaded walk and after the Norse tied the game at 1-1 with a run in the third, the Vikings came right back as Olivia Jones' RBI fielder's choice gave CSU a 2-1 lead after three innings.

The Vikings broke the game open with three runs in the fourth as Riley Ries delivered a two-run double and Jones had her second RBI of the game with another fielder's choice.

Mel Woodard went 3-for-4 with a run in game two, while Ries and Jones drove in two runs each.

In today's opener, NKU scored in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead and added single tallies in the fifth and sixth innings to extend the lead to 3-0. The Vikings used an RBI fielder's choice from Jones and an RBI single from Tone in the sixth to slice the NKU lead to 3-2, but could not push the tying run across the plate.

Tone went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Ries also had two hits. Marissa Marcelli and Hanna Breeden both scored one one.

Catalano started for the Vikings and worked five innings, giving up three runs - two earned - on six hits with two stikeouts, while Breeden worked the final two innings and fanned three.

The Vikings return to action on Tuesday (May 2) when CSU hosts UIC at 12:00 pm for a doubleheader in the final home games of the season.
