Joecken Leads Vikings Past North Dakota, 1-0

HONOLULU, Hawaii - Mackenzie Joecken threw a complete game one hitter with six strikeouts and had an RBI single in the first inning to lead Cleveland State to a 1-0 victory over North Dakota in the Bank of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine Classic late Friday night.

CSU is now 9-15 this year.

The Vikings struck for the lone run of the game in the first inning as Paige Hartley drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on Mel Woodard's sacrifice bunt. After a strikeout, Riley Ries was hit-by-a-pitch and Joecken followed with an RBI single up the middle to score Hartley.

It was all the support that Joecken needed as she retired the side in order three times and allowed one hit - a sixth inning leadoff infield single.

Joecken threw 105 pitches, including 62 strikes.

Macy Kaisk, Ries and Joecken had hits for the Vikings.

CSU concludes play in the event with a 10:00 pm ET game against host Hawaii on Saturday.
