Vikings Drop Two at Belmont Tournament

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Cleveland State softball team dropped a pair of games on Saturday at the Belmont Tournament.

The Vikings fell to Fort Wayne, 3-1, and lost to North Dakota, 2-0, this afternoon.

In the opener, the Mastadons plated a run in the second inning, but CSU came right back to knot the game at 1-1 on a Macy Kaisk RBI double in the third. However, Fort Wayne added single runs in the third and fourth innings to claim the win.

Kaisk, Hannah Breeden, Mel Woodard, Jordan Humitz and Kait Gairing all had hits for CSU.

Mackenzie Joecken worked all six innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits with three strikeouts.

In today's second game, North Dakota used runs in the third and seventh innings in the win.

Breeden pitched 6 1/3 innings in the circle, giving up two runs (one earned) on seven hits with three strikeouts.

CSU concludes play in the Belmont Tournament with two games on Sunday. The Vikings will play Tennessee State at 10:00 am and against North Dakota at 12:15 pm.
