Ries Drives in Four Runs at Vikings Top NC A&T For Sixth Straight Win

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Cleveland State extended its win streak to six straight with a 7-2 win at host North Carolina A&T on Saturday afternoon at the NC A&T Aggie Invitational.

The Vikings are now 6-2 this year, while the Aggies fell to 2-5.

The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when Hannah Breeden delivered a two-run, two-out double to start the scoring and the Vikings added three more runs in the fifth to take a 5-0 lead.

Kait Gairing led off the fifth with a home run - her second of the season - and Riley Ries drilled a two-out, two-run homer to push the lead to 5-0. It was also Ries' second homer of the year.

The Aggies added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to slice the CSU lead to 5-2, but Ries had a two-run double in the seventh to extend the Vikings' lead back to five runs.

Ries finished with three of CSU's six hits, going 3-for-4 with two runs and four RBI.

In addition to her two-run double, Breeden worked six innings in the circle, giving up two runs on nine hits with a strikeout to move to 1-0 this year. Kristen Catalano relieved Breeden after a leadoff single in the seventh and retired three straight - including a strikeout - to close out the win.

The Vikings conclude play in the tournament with a 9:30 am game against Maryland-Eastern Shore on Sunday.
