Vikings Top Canisius, 6-3, to Cap Perfect Saturday

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State capped a perfect Saturday at the CSU Dome Tournament with a 6-3 win over Canisius on Saturday night. 

The Vikings defeated Robert Morris earlier in the day and is now 2-2 this year.

The Vikings jumped on the board early with two runs in the first inning on a Macy Kaisk two-run homer. Canisius answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning, but the Vikings responded with a run in the third on a double steal of second and home to push the lead to 3-1.

A Kaitlin Gairing RBI single in the fourth scored Bailee Gray to make it 4-1, but the Golden Griffins came back with two runs in the fourth to slice the deficit to 4-3.

It remained that way until the seventh when Hannah Breeden drilled an RBI double into the gap and Gray added another insurance run with an RBI groundout.

Mackenzie Joecken worked four innings, giving up three runs, to earn the win, while Breeden worked the seventh inning to earn the save. Taylor Miokovic pitched two iinnings and didn't give up a hit.

CSU closes play in the tournament on Sunday with a 4:00 pm game against Canisius.
