Ries' Walk-Off Double Caps CSU's Rally in 9-8 Win Over Robert Morris

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Riley Ries hit a walk-off, two-run double to cap Cleveland State's rally and help the Vikings defeat Robert Morris, 9-8, on Saturday afternoon at the CSU Dome Invitational.

The Vikings trailed 7-1 after RMU scored four runs in the top of the fourth, but CSU rallied with eight runs over the final four innings - capped by Ries' double - to earn their first win of the season.

CSU pounded out 11 hits in the game as Macy Kaisk, Mel Woodard and Bailee Gray had two hits each, while Emery Sipe drew a single-game program record five walks and Hannah Tanis scored two runs.

After the Colonials took a 7-1 lead, CSU plated two runs in the fourth on a Paige Hartley RBI on a fielder's choice and a bases loaded walk from Sipe. In the fifth, Jordan Humitz delivered an RBI double and the Vikings scored a pair of unearned runs to close the gap to 7-6. A squeeze bunt from pinch hitter Mackenzie Joecken scored Olivia Jones in the sixth to knot the game at 7-7, but the Colonials came back in the top of the seventh with a run to take an 8-7 lead.

Kait Gairing opened CSU's half of the seventh with a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Paige Hartley. After Sipe drew her fifth walk of the game, Macy Kaisk delivered and single to load the bases and Ries followed with the game-winning double to the gap in right center field.

Joecken earned the win in the circle, working the seventh inning.

CSU continues play in the tournament tonight when the Vikings host Canisius at 8:00 pm. The Vikings will be the visiting team for tonight's game.
