Gairing & Kaisk Homer, but Vikings Drop First Two Games of Season

CLEVELAND, Ohio -Kait Gairing and Macy Kaisk both hit home runs, but the Cleveland State softball team dropped the first two games of the season on Friday at the CSU Dome Tournament at Krenzler Dome.

The Vikings fell to Niagara in the 2018 season opener, 10-4, and dropped a 10-3 game to Bowling Green in the final game of the day.

In the opener against Niagara, Gairing hit a two-run homer for the Vikings, while Riley Ries and Mel Woodard drove in a run each. The trio, along with Hannah Breeden, Kelly Hysong and Bailee Gray all had one hit each.

Kaisk had two of CSU's six hits in the nightcap versus the Falcons and drove in all three CSU runs. Woodard, Hysong, Gairing and Emery Sipe had one hit each against the Falcons.

Kaisk's two-run homer in the sixth sliced BGSU's lead to 4-3, but the Falcons came back with six runs in the bottom of the sixth to break the game open.

The Vikings continue play in the tournament with a 7:00 pm game against Bowling Green on Friday night.
