CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State dropped the series opener to Detroit Mercy, 9-1, on Tuesday afternoon at Viking Field.
The Vikings took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Riley Ries that scored Melissa Jacobsen who led off the inning with a single.
However, the Titans scored two runs in the second, third and fourth innings and added three in the sixth to take the opener.
Jacobsen finished 2-for-3 with a run to lead the Vikings, while Ries and Mel Woodard also had hits.
The series will conclude with a doubleheader on Wednesday (April 26) at Viking Field. Game one is slated for 12:00 pm.
