A sacrifice fly from Mel Woodard in the third inning scored McNew to push the CSU lead to 5-2, but the Titans came right back with four runs in the fourth to take a 6-5 lead.
A Detroit error led to a Viking run in the fifth inning to knot the contest at 6-6 and a two-run double from Ries in the sixth put CSU ahead, 8-6.
The Titans put a runner on third with one out in the sixth, but Knight retired the next two batters and set down Detroit in order in the seventh to clinch the win.
