Vikings Drop Two at Jacksonville State

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - The Cleveland State softball team dropped a pair of games at Jacksonville State on Saturday afternoon which concluded the Vikings' spring break trip down south.

CSU lost the opener, 6-2, and fell in the nightcap, 5-3.

The Vikings took a 2-0 lead in the opener as Nena Doran led off the game with a double and Cynthia Woodard followed with a two-run homer. However, JSU scored single runs in the first and second innings and added three more in the third to take a 5-1 lead. They would add another run in the sixth on a solo homer.

Woodard finished game one with two hits, while Doran, Mackenzie Joecken and Sydney Morgan all had one hit each.

JSU took a 5-0 lead in the nightcap after three innings, but the Vikings added two runs in the fourth to slice the deficit to 5-2. Woodard led the inning off with a solo homer, while Alisha Silva added an RBI single that scored Sydney Choe.

Joecken added a solo home run in the sixth inning to bring CSU within 5-3, but the Vikings could get not closer the rest of the game.

Joecken and Susan Knight both had two hits in the nightcap.

The Vikings will return to action on Wednesday (March 18) when CSU travels to Notre Dame for a single game at 4:30 p.m.
