Vikings Win Two Games in Georgia

CANTON, Ga. - Cleveland State used strong pitching in the morning and an offensive explosion in the afternoon to earn a pair of wins today.

The Vikings picked up a 3-0 win over Eastern Illinois this morning and earned an 11-3 victory over Northern Kentucky in five innings this afternoon.

Susan Knight dominated in the win over EIU, allowing just six hits and striking out eight in a complete game shutout victory. She improved to 4-1 with the win.

Cynthia Woodard broke a scoreless game in the fifth inning with a two-out, two-run homer after Knight drew a walk. It would be all the support that Knight would need.

The Vikings added an insurance run in the sixth on Sydney Morgan's RBI single.

Woodard, Erica McNew and Mackenzie Joecken all had two hits against EIU.

In the victory over NKU, Nena Doran hit a CSU single-game record three homers and finished 3-for-4 with three runs and four RBI. A total of 17 players in school history had hit two homers in a game for CSU.

Doran wasted little time in getting the Vikings on the board with a leadoff homer and McNew and Alyson Broschk delivered RBI singles as CSU jumped out to a 3-0 lead after an inning.

Doran added her second homer of the game in the second inning, but the Norse came back with two runs in the second and a single tally in the third to pull within 4-3.

But CSU broke the game open with four runs in the fourth, highlighted by a three-run triple by Hannah Yoe. Doran belted her third homer of the game in the fifth and Woodard followed with a solo homer to extend the lead to 11-3.

Alex Radjen fired a complete game, four-hitter and struck out 10 to improve to 4-1 this season.

CSU will conclude its swing through Georgia with two games on Sunday, playing Saint Louis at 10:00 a.m. and Northern Kentucky at 12:30 p.m.
