Vikings Fall to Campbell, 8-4, in Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Erica McNew and Nena Doran drove in two runs each, but Cleveland State dropped its first game of the Dolphin Classic, 8-4, to Campbell on Friday morning.

CSU fell to 5-4 this season, while Campbell improved to 7-5.

The Vikings jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings, but Campbell would score eight runs over the third through sixth innings to rally for the win.

McNew belted a two-run homer in the first after Cynthia Woodard drew a two-out walk to give the Vikings an early lead. Doran reached on an error in the second inning and Emma Nicholas and Katelind Phillips scored to give CSU a 4-0 lead.

However, Campbell scored three runs in the third and fifth innings and added single tallies in the fourth and sixth innings to claim the win.

McNew had two of CSU's four hits, while Doran and Phillips had one hit each.

Alex Radjen was dealt her first loss of the season, falling to 3-1.

The Vikings joined the field at the Dolphin Classic on Wednesday after their five games at the Western Kentucky Invitational were cancelled due to weather.

CSU resumes play in the Dolphin Classic with a 5:30 p.m. game against host Jacksonville on Friday evening.
