INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Cleveland State fell behind, 3-0, at halftime and couldn't get back into the match, falling 7-1 to Butler on Sunday (Oct. 1) at the Butler Bowl. The Vikings are now 1-11 and 0-2 in Horizon League play, while Butler moves to 4-5-1 and 1-0-1 in league play.

Butler got on the board at the 5:05 mark when Marianne Schilling rebounded Kenzie Korta's shot just inside the box and fired a shot past sophomore goalie Ashley Kidwell. Butler scored again in the 11th minute off another Korta rebound, this time off the foot of Abbie Kaul on the tail end of a free kick.

"Butler got a lot of momentum after scoring so early," head coach Derrek Falor said. "They move off the ball really well and were very dynamic on the ball. We had some defensive lapses and some mental breakdowns early in the match and we just never recovered."

Butler's final tally of the first stanza came in the 17th minute from Angie Muir, assisted by Molly Arenberg.

The second half was much of the same, as Schilling scored at the 52:04 mark on a rebound off a shot from Jenny Southard. Schilling would score for a third time in the 84th minute on a shot 20 yards out from the right side.

Molly Callon and Carrie Twyman also found the back of the net for the Bulldogs, with Callon's tally coming in the 83rd minute, and Twyman's in the 86th.

CSU got on the board when sophomore Lisa Conway scored on a breakaway on the right side at the 86:40 mark. Sophomore Abbie Kakias was credited for an assist on the play.

"That goal was a good statement to the team," Falor said. "We played hard until the end. I was glad to see our players still hustling late in the match."

Conway's goal was one of her two shots on goal in the match. She and sophomore Maggie Pugliese each had three shots to lead the Vikings.

The Vikings return to action on Wednesday (Oct. 4) with a match against Notre Dame (OH) at Krenzler Field. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
