Cleveland State Women's Soccer Ties Green Bay on the Road, 1-1

GREEN BAY, Wisc. – Cleveland State (3-7-2, 0-3-2) drew with Green Bay (0-7-3, 0-3-1) 1-1 on Saturday afternoon.

The Vikings struck in the eighth minute as Brooke Opferman took advantage of a bobbled save by the goalkeeper off a set piece from McKenna Donahue and Makayla Parry.

Green Bay nearly got on the board in the 35th minute when Zoey Pagels free kick from 25 yards out was saved off the crossbar by Liv Fain, and another huge save followed on a scramble in the box.

Cleveland State took the 1-0 lead into the half despite GB holding a 9-8 edge in shots.

The Phoenix knotted the game in the 70th minute after the Vikings were called for a handball in the box off a corner kick. Zoey Pagels converted the ensuing penalty kick.

The final 20 minutes went scoreless, with each team earning a point, raising the Vikings total to two for the year.

Cleveland State outshot their opponents 14-11 and 7-5 in shots on goal. The Green and White also took eight corners compared to two for the home team.

Kathryn Ramicone, Donahue, and Opferman finished with three shots apiece. Fain came up with four saves in goal.

The Vikings welcome Youngstown State to Krenzler Field on Thursday, October 5 for a 7 p.m. matchup.
