Cleveland State Women's Soccer Drops Horizon League Opener to Milwaukee, 2-1

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Vikings (3-5-0, 0-1-0) battled till the end of their Horizon League opener against Milwaukee (4-2-2, 1-0-0), but fell in the end, 2-1.

The Panthers claimed the first lead in the 23rd minute when Kayla Rollins scored off an assist from Kristina Karlof.

Cleveland State equalized in the 41st minute after Brooke Opferman netted her first collegiate goal off a corner kick by Lina Feltovich and touched on by Madi Snyder.

The scoreline remained the same at the intermission, with the visitors holding an 8-4 edge in shots.

Milwaukee scored the eventual game-winner in the 81st minute as Clara Broecker touched in a 25-yard free kick from Lainey Higgins, winning 2-1.

The Panthers held a 12-8 advantage in shots, but the Green and White had a 4-2 edge in corners.

Opferman led the way with two shots, both of those on frame. Liv Fain came up with fives in the contest.

Cleveland State heads to IUPUI on Sunday, September 17 for a 1 p.m. match.
