Cleveland State Women's Soccer Defeats Saint Francis on Senior Night

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State (3-4-0) toppled Saint Francis (0-7-0) 4-1 on Senior Night Thursday evening. Prior to the game, the Vikings recognized their five seniors; Kierstin Clark, Maria Bashardoust, Kathryn Ramicone, Bella Ceepo, and Mollie McGuire.

The Green and White took the 1-0 advantage in the fifth minute after Lina Feltovich converted from the penalty spot. Cleveland State grew their lead to 2-0 in the 40th minute when Emma Pompo's cross deflected off a St. Francis defender and into the back of the net for an own goal.

Pompo then got into the scoring column in the 43rd minute, finishing off a through ball from Brooke Opferman to lead 3-0 at halftime. The Vikings defense held SFU without a shot in the half.

The Red Flash ended the shutout in the 65th minute when Caterina Schiavo headed in a 40-yard free kick from Lauren Pyle.

Erica Leinweber put the finishing touches on the 4-1 victory in the 75th minute, out-dribbling the entire defense from midfield and slotting it past the keeper.

The Vikings held a commanding 21-5 edge in shots and a 5-3 advantage in corners. Leinweber fired off five shots, with three on frame. Ramicone finished with four shots, including three on target.

McGuire got the start in net, logging 57 minutes and getting credit with the win. Liv Fain made one save in relief.

Cleveland State will have a week off before starting Horizon League play at home on Thursday, September 14, against Milwaukee at 5 p.m.
