Cleveland State Women's Soccer Falls at Home to Pitt

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State (1-1-1) returned home on Sunday to face Pitt (3-0-0) on Krenzler Field and fell to the visitors 6-0.

THE GAME
The game remained scoreless until the 35th minute when the Panthers were awarded a free kick from 30-yards out. Ashton Gordon played the ball into the box where Ellie Coffield flicked it onto Landy Mertz for the first goal of the game. Just a minute later, Amanda West made it 2-0 after beating the keeper to the near post.

The score remained the same at halftime with Emma Pompo having the lone shot for the home team.

Pitt notched their third goal just two minutes into the second half as Fleming Dean scored off a through ball from Leah Pais. The same two players connected again in the 54th minute as the margin stood at 4-0.

The Panthers added goals in the 77th and 79th minutes to hand the Vikings their first loss of the year, 6-0.

Mollie McGuire got the start in goal and made seven saves before giving way to Elyse Broderick for her collegiate debut. Broderick made two saves. Erica Leinweber paced the Vikings with two shots.
