Cleveland State Women's Soccer Defends Krenzler in Victory Over UIC

CLEVELAND - The Cleveland State women's soccer team took down UIC in a Thursday evening under-the-lights battle at Krenzler Field. With the win, the Vikes snapped a five-game losing skid and gain three valuable points in the league.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"We definitely defended our end of it with a lot more urgency and conviction, which is why we get our first shutout of the season tonight and three massive points. Obviously, we've been down on our luck and not getting the results we wanted in the last couple of matches, but we kept asking our players to keep fighting, believing and trusting and that one of these nights we would get rewarded for it. And tonight, we did." - Dallas Boyer

THE GAME
The first 45 minutes were evenly matched, as Cleveland State recorded eight shots to UIC's six. Heading into intermission, the game was tied 0-0.

Grace Krosky found the back of the net for the Vikes at the 56th minute mark off of a Grace Grant assist, giving Cleveland State a 1-0 advantage.

The Vikings held strong defensively the rest of the half, not allowing a goal, securing the Green and White victory.

Kyla Valaitis, who saw five shots on goal, saving all five, received her first clean sheet of the 2021 season.

Cleveland State recorded 13 shots on the day, with eight on goal.

Krosky's game-winning goal was her second score of the season, including her second in three games, while Grant's assist was her first of the fall season.
