Cleveland State Women's Soccer Drops Sunday Match Against Ohio

CLEVELAND – The Cleveland State women's soccer team fell to Ohio on Sunday afternoon at Krenzler Field, 3-1. Sunday's contest marked the final non-league game of the season for the Green and White as the team will open #HLWSOC play against IUPUI on Thursday.

THE GAME
Ohio's Isabella Ginocchi scored the game's first goal at the 38:21 mark of the opening half. After 45 minutes of action, Cleveland State found themselves in a 1-0 hole.

The Bobcats extended their lead less than five minutes into the second half as Abby Townsend scored for Ohio.

Just about 10 minutes later at the 58:59 mark of the match, Ja'Maya Ward peppered the back of the net for the Green and White, cutting into Ohio's lead, 2-1. Maddie Young recorded the assist on Ward's goal, her first assist of the season.

Ohio's Haley Miller tacked on another goal for the Bobcats with 19 minutes to play in Sunday's contest.

Cleveland State recorded 10 shots on the day, with four of those shots on goal. Senior goalkeepers Annie Jackson and Miranda Thomas each played a half, as Jackson saw six shots on goal, saving five, and Thomas saw five shots on goal, saving three. 

UP NEXT
Cleveland State will take on IUPUI on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Krenzler Field. Although the Vikings have a 4-6-1 record all-time against the Jaguars, CSU does hold a 3-1-0 all-time home record. Following Thursday's Horizon League opener, the Green and White will hit the road for a contest at Detroit Mercy.
