Cleveland State Women's Soccer Falls to Akron

AKRON, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's soccer team fell on Thursday night in a close 1-0 match against Northeast Ohio rival Akron at FirstEnergy Stadium Cub Cadet Field. With the loss, the Green and White fall to 1-4-1 on the season.

THE GAME
The Zips of Akron recorded the game's lone goal at the 30:30 mark of the first half, when Katie Stafford peppered the back of the net. 

Each team recorded six shots in the first half, while the Vikings out-shot the Zips in the second half 4-2.

Of the 10 shots, two of them were on goal. Grace Grant led the way for Cleveland State, as the senior tallied two shots on the evening, including one on goal, while Katie Sidloski, Lina Feltovich, Grace Krosky, Maia Ransom, Maddie Young and Ja'Maya Ward each registered one shot. 

Kyla Valaitis earned the start in goal, notching five saves.

Akron recorded 12 fouls to Cleveland State's nine, while the Zips took six corner kicks to the Vikings two.

Cleveland State will take on Ohio University on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Krenzler Field. The Vikes hold a 2-2-2 home record against the Bobcats, with an overall record of 4-6-2. Sunday's match will be the team's final contest prior to #HLWSOC play, as well as senior day. The Green and White will honor nine seniors on Sunday, beginning with 25:00 minutes on the clock. Following Sunday's contest, the Vikings will open League play on Thursday, Sept. 15 against IUPUI. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Krenzler Field.
