Cleveland State Women's Soccer Falls to Buffalo in First Preseason Match

CLEVELAND - The Cleveland State women's soccer team fell in their first exhibition match of the 2021 season, 2-0, to Buffalo on Sunday afternoon at Krenzler Field. The Vikings will play one more exhibition contest on Friday, Aug. 13 at Duquesne, before the team's first regular season contest against Kent State on Aug. 19.

Head Coach Dallas Boyer played 32 student-athletes in Sunday's preseason tilt, including eight freshmen who saw their first career collegiate minutes. 

The Green and White are led by captains Essence Canady and Helena Novatsidis, along with reigning #HLWSOC Freshman of the Year Kathryn Ramicone and All-League First Team selection Maddie Young.

Cleveland State will play in a "normal" 20-match fall schedule. The Vikings will begin their regular season with a home contest against Kent State on Thursday, Aug. 19 at 7 p.m. In honor of the team's return to Krenzler Field, Cleveland State Athletics t-shirts will be given away to the first 100 CSU students in attendance, in addition to free bacon. Cleveland State will face off against all 11 #HLWSOC opponents throughout the course of the season, with six home matches and five road contests. Boyer's squad will open league play on Thursday, Sept. 16 versus IUPUI at 6 p.m. at Krenzler Field. 

UP NEXT
The Vikings will head to Pittsburgh, Pa. on Friday, Aug. 13 for their final tuneup before the regular season, facing off against Duquesne at 4 p.m. Duquesne holds the edge in all-time regular season series wins, 3-1, with a 2-0 home record.
