CHICAGO -- Senior Briana Niedermeier recorded two shots and Stevie Holbrook and Miranda Thomas combined to make seven saves, but Cleveland State dropped a 3-0 decision to UIC on Sunday in a Horizon League match on Flames Field.

UIC used a first-period goal and two goals in the second period to defeat the Vikings. With just 1:30 remaining in the opening period the Flames got on the scoreboard when Emily Kavanaugh scored off a corner kick.

The Flames upped the lead to 2-0 when Cassidy Privett scored at the 52:49 mark of the second and capped the scoring when Megan Bowman tallied a goal at the 64:15 mark of the second.

The Flames, who improved to 10-5-1 overall and 6-2-0 in the Horizon League, outshot the Vikings 21-8 for the match.

Cleveland State, which fell to 5-8-3 overall and 3-4-1 in league play, got four saves from Holbrook and three saves from Thomas. Grace Grant, Essence Canady, Helena Novatsidis, Elena Gutlove, Megan Bine and Toni Dickson each had one shot.

The Vikings slipped to seventh place in the Horizon League standings with the loss and now trail Northern Kentucky by two points in the race for the final spot in the Horizon League Tournament. Cleveland State will need a victory over Wright State in its regular season finale and a victory by Detroit Mercy over Northern Kentucky in order to secure the final tournament berth.

The Vikings will finish the season at Wright State on Friday (Nov. 1) at 7 p.m.
