MATCH RECAP

CLEVELAND -- Keeper Stevie Holbrook made seven saves, including a pair of critical saves in the 75th minute, to lift Cleveland State to a 0-0 double overtime draw with Niagara on Thursday at Krenzler Field.

Holbrook turned in a pair of spectacular saves in the 75th minute to keep the match scoreless. Selena Mangoni fired a shot through a crowd of players from the top of the box that Holbrook dove to her left to stop and then she stoned Hadley Bucken from point-blank range on the rebound.

Cleveland State, which is now 2-3-2 on the season, nearly stole the match in the 89th minute but Ja'Maya Ward just missed the net from in close.

While neither team found the back of the net, the match featured up and down play throughout.

The Vikings turned on the offensive pressure in the first overtime and outshot the Purple Eagles 3-1. Grace Grant, Elena Gutlove and Ward all had looks at the game-winning goal, but came away empty.

Niagara, which is now 4-1-1 on the year, received five saves from keeper Sabrina Locas. Kelsey Araujo, Veda Hensel and Annie Ibey each had three shots for the Purple Eagles.

Cleveland State will conclude non-conference play on Sunday (Sept. 15) as it hosts Canisius at 1 p.m. on Krenzler Field. The match will also mark Senior Day for the Vikings as Cleveland State will honor Briana Niedermeier, Bianca Sarti, Elaina Walnoha, Kailah Ransom, Toni Dickson and Sydney Hamker.
