THE OPENING KICK:
• Cleveland State will return to the road for just the second time during 2018 this weekend, traveling south for the Courtyard by Marriott UNCW Soccer Invitational.
• The Vikings will face Fairleigh Dickinson in the tournament opener at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 31 before facing the host UNCW at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 2.
• This will be the first meeting against both teams for the Vikings in program history.
• Friday's match against Fairleigh Dickinson will be the first neutral site match for the Vikings since the 2015 season.
• The Courtyard by Marriott UNCW Soccer Invitational includes Cleveland State, Fairleigh Dickinson, Kent State, and the host UNCW.

LAST WEEK:
• The Vikings dropped a pair of 2-0 contests against Niagara and Kent State, to even their record at 2-2 on the season.
• Last Sunday's match against Kent State marked the first home loss of the season for the Vikings, while last Thursday's contest at Niagara was the first road match of the year for Cleveland State.

FREE KICKS:
• Head coach Dallas Boyer, in his second season in the top spot, has been on the coaching staff for 12 of the 15 seasons in program history.
• Sophomore Stevie Holbrook was named the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week for the season's opening week after combining for four saves as the Vikings earned victories over Howard (2-1 OT) and Chicago State (3-1).
• CSU's win over Howard marked the ninth time since the beginning of the 2015 season that the Vikings came back to win a match in which they had been trailing at some point. However, it was the first such occurrence in non-conference play since a 2-1 win at Eastern Kentucky in August 2015.
• The 2-1 overtime victory over Howard marked the first time since 2013 that the Vikings have won their season-opener, and just the fourth time overall.
• So far this season the Vikings have had a balanced offense, as five different players have scored Cleveland State's five goals - McKenna Vento, Jenna Prathapa, Sarah Krause, Elaina Walnoha, and Ja'Maya Ward.
Dani Sowinski had the first multi-assist game of her career in the win over Chicago State and had three assists in the opening two games.
• Cleveland State won nine games last season, one off the school record, and tied the program record with five League victories.
• CSU scored 28 goals last season, tying the school record, while its 224 shots reset the program standard.
Jenna Prathapa became the first player in program history to earn HL Freshman of the Year honors last season. She had six goals and three assists on the year, both of which were the most in a season by a CSU freshman.

UP NEXT:
• Cleveland State will return home to host Ohio on Friday, September 7, before hitting the road to close out non-league play at Canisius on Sunday, September 9.
