Women's Soccer Adds Pair of Transfers

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State head women's soccer coach Dallas Boyer has announced the addition of Pittsburgh transfer Sarah Krause and Campbell transfer Abby Major to the program.

Both student-athletes have enrolled at CSU for the 2018 spring semester and are eligible to train with the team immediately. Krause will have one season of eligibility remaining, while Major will have three seasons left.

"We are excited to add two of Cleveland's most accomplished players in the last few years in Sarah and Abby," head coach Dallas Boyer said. "They were major contributors on some of the best club and high school teams in the area the last few years and both have proven themselves as productive players at the Division I level.  We are thrilled at the opportunity to bring players with that kind of winning history and connection to Cleveland back home as this program continues to become a destination for the area's best players.  The addition of these two players make us even deeper on both sides of the ball and will make competition within our group a lot of fun to manage this spring."

Krause is a Cleveland native who graduated from Valley Forge HS. In three seasons at Pittsburgh, she played in 54 matches and made 49 starts, tallying 18 points on six goals and six assists. As a junior, she scored two goals with two assists, posted one goal and two assists as a sophomore and notched three goals and two assists during her freshman campaign.

Krause played just one season of high school soccer and was named to the OSSCA All-State second team as a sophomore. She played for the Ambassadors Football Club, tallying 66 goals and 47 assists and winning six Ohio State Cup Championships and two regional titles (2012-13).

"I've known Sarah for a long time and she's an outstanding person that we get to add to our locker room," Boyer said. "She is a very creative and dynamic offensive player who has already proven her ability to create chances at the highest level of collegiate soccer in the ACC.  Her ability to break down defenders on the dribble from the midfield or the front line and find the final pass to create chances for teammates will immediately make us more interesting in our attack. Adding a player of Sarah's skill level to an already versatile and exciting attacking group will allow us to play several different combinations this semester."

Major, a native of Strongsville, Ohio and a Walsh Jesuit HS graduate, had a strong freshman year at Campbell, tallying seven points on two goals and three assists. She appeared in all 19 matches with 18 starts and was named the Big South Freshman of the Week on Sept. 5 after recording a goal and an assist in a win over South Carolina State. She also netted the game-tying goal in a 2-2 draw at Longwood in October.

Major was a four-year starter at Walsh Jesuit, leading the program to an 84-1-5 mark over her four years, which included four straight state titles. She earned first team all-district honors as a senior and was an honorable mention pick as a sophomore and junior.

"Abby returns home to Cleveland where she was an important part of one of the best runs in high school soccer history, helping her Walsh Jesuit team win four straight Ohio High School championships," Boyer said. "She is extremely versatile on the field and can play essentially anywhere in the midfield or across a back line. She is very quick, has great soccer instincts, anticipates well, is an excellent one-on-one defender and has a very good technical skill level that fits perfect with our possession style of play. Abby had a very good freshman season, starting 18 games and playing more than 1,000 minutes as a key piece of a solid Division I program, so she's proven herself at this level and brings that experience home with her."

Under the direction of first-year head coach Dallas Boyer, the Vikings finished the 2017 season with a 9-9-1 overall record, including a 5-4 record in the Horizon League to earn a berth in the League tournament for the first time since 2015. The nine wins are tied for the second most in program history, while the five League wins are tied for the most in a season in CSU history.
