Sarsfield Named to Horizon League Women's Soccer All-Academic Team

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State senior defender Marissa Sarsfield has been named to the 2016 Horizon League Women's Soccer All-Academic team.

This is the second straight year that Sarsfield has been named to the team. She carries a 3.96 grade point average as a chemical engineering major.

On the field, Sarsfield has been a mainstay in the CSU backline during her four-year career. She has started 63 of her 69 career matches and needs to play in one more contest to become the 11th player in program history to appear in 70 career games. Sarsfield has helped the Vikings to 18 shutouts during her career, including a school-record seven in 2014.

The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits.

Sarsfield and the Vikings conclude the 2016 season with an 8:00 pm ET match at Milwaukee tonight.
